The Wikipedia says:

The Twelve Apostles are a collection of natural limestone stacks standing just off shore in the Port Campbell National Park, on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Their proximity to one another has made the site a popular tourist attraction.

A Place in the Country

Møn Island, which is about an hour and a half drive south of Copenhagen, is as lovely as any European farmland style countryside gets. If I could afford to buy a place in the country, Møn would be high on my list.

Blackfriars Bridge:
walking toward the Tate Modern

We’d just been on the London Eye and decided to walk alongside the Thames toward the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre. Blackfriars Bridge is on the way and for me it’s one of the more interesting bridges of London.

Everything in Singapore is kind of unreal — larger than life. This small posy is just an example.

A place to meditate

January 20th, 2008 Comments Off

This photo was taken on top of a hill (3,800 meters up) outside a small Tibetan town called Ganzi. I often look at it and wonder about how simple it would be to live there and just mediate each day.

Most people say my life is already a dream. That I live in some kind of god realm and if life got much simpler (quieter) than it already is, then I might as well be dead. I suppose, in comparison to most people I don’t do a lot. I work and I travel and I read and I blog, occasionally. But I still find life to be tad hectic (grin) and so I also meditate. I’m not a fanatic and I’m not sure that I’m even that spiritual, but I like to go to a Vipassana meditation centre 2-3 times a year and I try to put my bum on a cushion most mornings for at least 20 minutes.

Do I recommend meditation? The answer is unequivocally yes. For me, there is nothing that helps me live easier, better, happier, than meditation. I like the simplicity of mindfulness (insight) meditation. I like the teachings of S.N. Goenka and also people like Jon Kabat-Zinn. I also like the teachings of Suzuki Roshi and Shinzen Young.

Serenity Now

I know Avalon Beach has nothing to do with the TV series Seinfeld. It was a subliminal thingy. The snapshot looked serene and that led me to Serenity Now! and that led to me to Jerry Seinfeld and his show.

Now you know how my mind works you can leave this site happy.

Serenity now, insanity later.

George, letting my emotions out was the best thing I’ve ever done. Sure, I’m not funny anymore, but there’s more to life than making shallow, fairly obvious observations.

People on the Bridge

by Wislawa Szymborska
translated by: Joanna Maria Trzeciak

Strange planet and strange people on it.
They yield to time, but they don’t want to recognize time.
They have their ways of expressing resistance.
They make pictures such as this:

Nothing in particular at first glance.
One can see water,
one river bank,
a narrow boat strenuously moving upstream.
One can see a bridge over the water
and people on the bridge.
People are clearly picking up the pace,
as rain starts whipping down from a dark cloud.

The point is, nothing happens further.
The cloud changes neither shape nor color.
The rain neither stops nor picks up.
The boat moves without moving.
The people on the bridge run
precisely where they ran before.

It is hard to get by without a commentary:
This is not an innocent picture.
Time was stopped here,
its laws no longer consulted.
It was denied impact on the developing events,
disregarded and dishonored. » Read the rest of this entry «
