Last week in Australia a female teacher was convicted of having sex with a 15 year old boy. Not only was it reported that she had sex with him, but she pursued him to do it. There has been a spate of female teacher pursuing underage male students of late, the most publicised I think was the Canadian Teacher who did it all again while on parole for the same type of offence.
My question comes after reading some of the mainstream media reports on these cases: Is the word pedophile, a male only term?
For me, it sure seems that way. It seems that if you are a women and you have sex with an underaged male then not only are you not called a pedophile by the media, but the crime and the punishment seem to be different. The Aussie teacher I mentioned got 4 months. Let me say it again. She got 4 months. I’m hard-pressed imagining a 4 month jail sentence for a male teacher convicted of having sex with a 15 year old female student in similar circumstances.
From wikipedia.org: Pedophilia, paedophilia, or pedophilia (see spelling differences), is the paraphilia of being sexually attracted primarily or exclusively to pre-pubescent children. Persons with this attraction are called pedophiles. In the United States and some other countries, the term pedophile is frequently used also to denote significantly older adults who are sexually attracted to adolescents[1], as well as those who have sexually abused a child.

Has there?
-and so what makes you think this is actually some kind of a (new) phenomenon!
“My question comes after reading some of the mainstream media reports on these cases: Is the word pedophile, a male only term?”
Interesting this:- the reason why it is easy to grind pedos down is because they are perceived as males only..

You hit the spot there – I wish there were more wisually alert people like you about..
first off, just having sex with someone under 18 doesnt automatically make u a pedophile. it has to do with with being PRIMARILY sexually attracted to underage people vs. adults as your definition stated. sex with a 15 yr old once doesnt = automatic pedophile, plus 15 although not legal & maybe immoral is WAY DIFFERENT than sex with a 5 year old. to me a true pedophile has sex with CHILDREN – as in prepubescent ones not teens. probably 95% of pedophiles are men. how often do u hear of a women who raped a 5 yr old vs a man who did so? maybe its testosterone that promotes it, dunno. the thing is, its not reported most of the time so it goes on even more than u realize. i’d say at least 30% of men are perverts that do this – this is based on my experience. at least half of the women i know have been sexually abused.
the reasons women have sex with underage boys are usually much different than men. the punishment is different because the crime IS different. most guys 13 & up would be having sex all the time if given the chance whereas girls are talked into it and often dont really want to.
