The Roman bath-house, in the City of Bath, receives more than a million visitors a year. So don’t go there if you want to be alone. They do have a cool audio service that wasn’t available last time I poked my nose in. Seems you can now listen to Bill Bryson — the author of some very funny travel books — share his thoughts and observations on Roman life, history and society. The swimming pool is called the Great Bath — I bet the water wasn’t that green when Marcus Aurelius was alive.

I always enjoy finding a good use of technology. Yesterday I discovered a a site called iJourneys that offers downloadable audio tours for Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice and Pompeii.
Basically, you download one of their audio guides load it on your MP3 player and then it’s just you and your headset as you stroll around the city, in your own time and at your own pace.
Get me a ticket to Venice.

Penguin has recently published the English edition of David Lane’s book about Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister. The book called Berlusconi’s Shadow: Crime, Justice and the Pursuit of Power, is being promoted it as an “exploration of the dark underside of Italy today”.
The book looks at Mafia, organised crime and corruption in Italy, “and it also looks at Silvio Berlusconi … the principal actor of the Italian political stage since the early 1990s,” Mr Lane told the Associated Press.

Now here’s a fine endeavour for the man who has tried everything. Get one bike…
